Project: “The Right to Sight”
What is the goal of the project? How has it changed over the course of Capstone?
My goal is to raise awareness about blindness and fundraise and donate some money to NGOs’ who give free eye surgery to people who live in developing countries. My plan is basically to pay the $25 the people have to pay when they go to the NGO’s to get the surgery, the surgery is free.
Your Capstone Project is a tool for you to demonstrate your college readiness and global competency. Use the GPS Global Leadership Performance Outcomes to evaluate your college readiness and global competency. Investigate the World: Produce New Global Knowledge. Students investigate the world, including their immediate environment. How have you incorporated this element of the GPS into your Capstone project?
Blindness is one of the biggest issue developing countries face every day, in my opinion it’s should be addressed and solved. Most people do not know this, but every year more than 1.5 million people become blind every year and 75 percent of this population lives in Africa and other developing countries. I feel like the problem is with the people, once they become blind they do not seek for any help, it could be because they do not have money or they are religious. Yesterday I was having a conversation with my father and I was telling him about cape stone project, he said that “The Right to Sight” is the prefect title for this project, since everyone have the right to have an eye sight and for some people that right been taken away which is really sad, but 99 percent is fixable, therefore there is always a second chance for this people to regain their eye sight.
Where are your strengths in this area? Why are they strengths? Where is this demonstrated in your Capstone?
The area that I am strong is research, because I already have an idea what was my goal and purpose before I started the project, during the presentation, I have several NGO’s I can work with to reach my goal. While I was doing my research I have found out that it only costs about $24 for one person to get the surgery , the rest is covered by NGO’s , therefore I would like to fundraise the $24 and help the people to get surgery. According to the money that made up to now, I would be able to pay for 8 people application fee.
Where are your weaknesses in this area? Why do you consider these to be weaknesses? How do you plan on correcting these weaknesses?
The area I am weak is fundraising, because everyone at school is trying to fundraise and also the booth in front of Wal-Mart was a disaster due to the weather, I have been selling candy, chips and drinks so I can fundraise more money. Fundraising is going great so far.
Recognize and Weigh Perspectives: Apply Cross-Cultural Understanding. Students recognize their own and others’ perspectives.
How have you incorporated this element of the GPS into your Capstone project?
My project could be really effective nationally and globally, it is basically about trying to help a person who does not have the money to get the surgery on their own and most importantly I will raise awareness around the school area which will help the students to have a better understanding of the world.
Where are your strengths in this area? Why are they strengths? Where is this demonstrated in your Capstone?

Communicate Ideas: Connect & Collaborate Across Boundaries. Students communicate and collaborate effectively with diverse audiences. I don’t think I am doing a good job on introducing to the school or the community, because not a lot of people are aware this worldwide problem.
How have you incorporated this element of the GPS into your Capstone project?
Where are your strengths in this area? Why are they strengths? Where is this demonstrated in your Capstone?

Selling during lunch, because it is easier to sell at lunch time. During this week I did not get sell anything since I run out, but I was able to make $50 a week before just from selling chips and candy. I’m still selling chips and drinks at school, hopefully I reach my goal. Currently I been selling chips and drinks at school, I was able to fundraise about $200. If I continue selling chips and drinks, hopefully, I would be able to reach my goal in the next few weeks. During this week I was able to raise $60, which means I currently have $310.

I would probably raise the awareness, but I will introduce my project soon.
